Interplanetary Shock (or CME Arrival)
Catalog: M2M_CATALOG
Location: Earth
Event Time: 2023-11-24T18:50Z ( DSCOVR: PLASMAG )
All Detecting Spacecrafts:
DSCOVR: PLASMAG
ACE: SWEPAM
ACE: MAG
Activity ID: 2023-11-24T18:50:00-IPS-001 (version 2)
Quality of ICME Signature: 1 (lacks some signatures)
Note: Potential SIR arrival with onset of the arrival of a coronal hole high speed stream. Multiple increases in solar wind were observed from ~350 km/s at 2023-11-24T18:50Z to ~500 km/s at 2023-11-25T02:47Z and finally to around 590 km/s at 08:43Z. Amplification of magnetic field components with B_total initially increasing from 5nT to 8nT around 2023-11-24T18:50Z, up to 6nT at 2023-11-24T22:30Z and 18nT at 2023-11-25T08:30Z. Subsequent increases in density and temperature were also observed. Preliminary analysis reported this interplanetary shock may also have been associated with the arrival of CME: 2023-11-22T06:48Z and/or CME: 2023-11-22T21:36Z. Post-event analysis with more solar wind data shows this was a complex solar wind signature with possible coronal hole high speed stream arrival on 2023-11-24 and CME arrival at L1 of the 2023-11-22T21:36Z CME at 2023-11-25T07:59Z.
